  • Air Motion Systems manufactures LED UV curing systems for polymeric printing inks, coatings and adhesives, and other applications. Here you can learn about the benefits of this technology for the printing, processing and other industries; this article talks about the answers to some common questions about uv led curing.

    The basic principles and advantages of uv led curing:

    While some may try to downplay the flexibility or range of LED UV curing, the technology has been recognized in recent years as the world's leading developer and manufacturer of uv led curing solutions for Air Motion Systems. Its patented system is unmatched by competitors and is considered to be the best on the market today.

    When it comes to the printing industry, the most commonly used part of this system - AMS provides auditing solutions for offset, digital and flexographic presses, they are prepared to stay away from hot, messy and toxic conventional drying methods, or environmentally regulated conventional UVs Curing method, enjoy many improvements brought by LED UV curing.

    Adding LED UV systems to the press brings the benefits of changing the rules of the game. Here are some of the most prominent ones:

    · The ink cures immediately, so no drying time or powder is required;

    The printer can extend the substrate product to include plastics and other materials that do not absorb ink;

    ·The thermal substrate can be printed safely with quality results;

    UV inks do not contain solvents, so uv led curing eliminates the release of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and avoids environmental problems caused by them;

    · Energy costs and heat-related hazards that can be dried around the superheat;

    · can effectively use value-added coatings;

    · High-end printing effects, such as dripping (also known as "penetration"), can now be obtained by uv led curing, and further development in this field will broaden the creative application and potential.

    These are just some of the benefits of UV LED curing, and depending on the type and size of the press (whether offset, digital or flexo), the printer immediately appreciates other major advantages.

    UV led curing history:

    Ultraviolet (UV) curing methods have existed for decades: they were introduced in the 1960s, and as explained by Wikipedia, UV-based curing is "low temperature process, high speed process and solventless process cure by polymerization. Not by evaporation.

    The terminology of pedestrians: curing is different from drying, and when it comes to inks, adhesives and coatings, it is an immediate (or near-instant) process that does not involve the conversion of matter from liquid to solid in place, evaporation ( Water or solvent) or by absorption.

    Conventional UV curing uses a mercury arc lamp to produce ultraviolet light, which causes the ink, binder and coating specific to the process to undergo a chemical reaction (called polymerization) that, when exposed to it, converts them from liquid to solid . Ideally, they adhere firmly to the substrate onto which they are printed, i.e. they are firmly cured with sufficient depth of cure (they are not tacky or tacky).

    Although mercury arc lamps are widely used as UV curing solutions - they work well for a long time, people are familiar with their functions - they have their drawbacks: they produce ozone and require an exhaust system to maintain air quality; they use A large amount of energy and a large amount of heat; they involve the use of mercury, due to the fact that mercury has a long-term impact on the environment and is facing increasing monitoring, such as the EU's recent “Restriction of Hazardous Substances II (RoHS II) Rules” It prohibits the use of heavy metals including lead, mercury and cadmium.

    Uv led curing is a relatively new process, and many printers and converters are still learning, but in short, it provides the most common problems with thermal curing and traditional UV curing, from quality to environmental impact.

    In 2009, Air Motion Systems introduced the world's first truly scalable, high-power, LED-based UV curing system: the XP series of LED UV systems, the first to introduce LED UV curing. Based on a new generation of scalable UV LEDs, collimating optics and advanced cooling technology, AMS's patented system welcomes a new era of printing and industrial curing.
